Summary via Goodreads:

Laying hands upon the injured and dying, Avry of Kazan assumes their wounds and diseases into herself. But rather than being honored for her skills, she is hunted. Healers like Avry are accused of spreading the plague that has decimated the Territories, leaving the survivors in a state of chaos.

Stressed and tired from hiding, Avry is abducted by a band of rogues who, shockingly, value her gift above the golden bounty offered for her capture. Their leader, an enigmatic captor-protector with powers of his own, is unequivocal in his demands: Avry must heal a plague-stricken prince—leader of a campaign against her people. As they traverse the daunting Nine Mountains, beset by mercenaries and magical dangers, Avry must decide who is worth healing and what is worth dying for. Because the price of peace may well be her life….

When I first started reading Touch of Power I have absolutely no idea what to expect. Perhaps, because this is my first Maria V. Snyder book to read. I’ve seen and read positive reviews of her other works and heard how her writing was really great.

For those who haven’t read any of Maria V. Snyder’s books (like me) and are constantly hearing high praises like what I heard, I’m very happy to say that these praises and positive reviews are very much true!

Touch of Power was such a pleasant surprise for me. Like what I’ve mentioned, I have no idea what to expect. I picked it up because the premise sounds very interesting, I sit up and started reading and then the next thing I knew I couldn’t put it down. It’s sooo good!

Touch of Power has a lot of astonishing and interesting aspects. For one, Snyder has a powerful and compelling way of writing and her imagination took my breath-away. One of the many things I utterly love about Touch of Power was its beautiful and eloquent setting. I am deeply impressed with world building and with Snyder’s brilliant story-telling, I almost felt as if I was in the story myself! I could vividly picture the characters and the places in the story. I’m still at awe. The plot was simply amazing. It has the right dose of action, adventure, romance and thrill. They were all rolled into one magical and exciting story!

Just like the setting, the characters in the story highly entertaining and engaging. I honestly feel emotionally invested with all the characters in the book. They are just so fun to read and it was easy to connect with them. Avry, the protagonist, is such a compassionate person. She’s sweet and strong in her own way and makes sensible decisions. She’s such an admirable heroine and I genuinely like her. The supporting characters  are as charming and likable as the main protagonist. They truly made the story more enjoyable. I am stoked for the next book, Scent of Magic (2012)

Touch of Power is no doubt one of the best I’ve read this year, no, one of the best I’ve read in my entire life! And because of that, I’m giving this 5 out of 5 stars and I highly recommend this book to all hardcore YA Fantasy fans (like me!) and for those who wants a book that will instantly take you to a new experience! You’ll definitely devour this one!
